AIHOSHI, Barney Murashi
January 7, 1922 – February 13, 2015

Barney was born in Vancouver, Canada to Naosuke and Nobuko. He was the third child of seven siblings. Barney met his future wife Setsuko, in 1938, when he ventured to Ocean Falls, BC, to try his hand at logging. The war intervened and the subsequent interment put plans on hold. After the war, Barney and Setty were resettled to Ontario. They married in 1948 in Hamilton, O.N. Barney became the proud and loving father of two children; John (Pam Mang) Aihoshi and Diane “Dee Dee” (Charles) Mowat. The years spent in Ontario produced many happy memories. Time spent with family, dear friends and at the cottage at Six Mile Lake are to name but a few. In 1968, the family left Ontario and have since called Revelstoke, BC, Peace River, AB, Calgary, AB, and Red Deer, AB, home. Although he was a master electrician by trade, Barney was a man of many talents. He hand built three houses and was accomplished at rockwork, wood carving, and ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement). Later in life, Barney added golf to his list of talents. He dearly loved and is survived by his wife, Setsuko, children; John and Diane, grandchildren; Kelsey (Greg King), Kirt, Shana (Jordan Benz), Mara, Gordon, and Mahala, and great-grandchildren; Ashton, Kayden, Evie, Charley, and Jett. They all brought him immense joy and Ojiichan (Grandfather) was greatly loved in return. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Henry (Sally Kondo) Aihoshi, sisters; Alice (Herb) Sakaguchi and Nora (Nick) Kaji. Barney is predeceased by his brother, Jim (Molly) Aihoshi, and sisters; Anna (Hank) Ryoji, Mary (Frank) Kondo. Barney made incredible, treasured friends throughout his lifetime that hold dear memories of wonderful times shared together. He will be profoundly missed by all. A special thank you to so many who helped care for Barney and especially Dr. Bouch for his excellent care over the years. A Memorial Service for Barney will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road, 1515 100 Street SE, Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Barney’s honor may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 202, 5913 50 Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4N 4C4 or to the Red Deer & District SPCA, 4505 77 Street, Red Deer, AB, T4P 2J1.
