OLDFORD, David “Dave”

In Loving Memory

It is with heavy broken hearts our family announces the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, David “Dave” Oldford. Dave passed away with family by his side at the Red Deer Regional Hospital after a short courageous battle with cancer in the early morning of Friday, April 17th, 2015 at the age of 70 years.

David was born on May 19th, 1944 in Red Deer, AB to Bruce and Anna Oldford. He married Claudia Schneider on August 29th, 1964 and together they had three children; Theresa, Glenn and Laura. Left to cherish Dave's memory are his daughters; Theresa Giesbrecht of Winfield, Laura (Rod) Duckett of Ponoka and son Glenn Oldford of Lacombe. Grandpa will also be lovingly remembered and terribly missed by his grandchildren; Thomas Young, James Young (girlfriend Meredith Conrad), Cole Giesbrecht, Taylor Duckett (fiance Steven Krause) and Colin Duckett. Left also to mourn is his beloved mom Anna Oldford, brothers; Art (Elaine) Oldford, Tim (Lucy) Oldford, Peter (Shelly) Oldford and sisters; Carol (Chris) Gregory, Barb Geigle and sister-in-law Sybil Oldford, along with thirteen nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his father Robert Bruce Oldford, brother Robert James "Bobby" Oldford, best friend and brother George Oldford, brother-in-Law Don Giegle, nephew Chad Giegle and niece Debbie Oldford.

As a young man Dave practiced as a journeyman mason and graduated with honors from NAIT’s first graduating class on August 30th, 1966. His plaque is still on display in the halls of Nait. Together with his brother George, they built an outstanding mason business "Oldford Brothers Masonry" which grew to be a business that has left a visible presence in several cities yet today. Dave was well respected for his business savy as an estimator and his work ethic. Dedicated to detail and perfection, David also had a passion for horses and livestock - specifically the cattle industry. He started with an outstanding herd of cross-breeds and later expanded into purebred polled Herefords. Working diligently to improve his breeding program, David nightly studied pedigrees and percentages on crossbreeding specific blood lines. This led to an incredible herd of "beef" cows and a strong line of breeding bulls. He was the first person to ship frozen Hereford embryos to Norway in the early 1980's and was also successful with his embryo transplant program.

David was a devoted Father and Grandfather who gave his all to support his family. He always loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed working outside in the yard with his grandkids, going fishing, a good game of cribbage and placing the odd wager on the "hoss" races.

We invite you to come and celebrate and remember his life with us at the Kozy Korner, 5024 53 Street, Lacombe, AB, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
