Elizabeth York
December 4, 1936 - May 24, 2015
YORK, Elizabeth (Betty)
Betty York of Red Deer passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the age of 78 years. It is with heavy hearts we say good bye to our deeply devoted and loving Mother and NaNa. Betty was born December 4, 1936 in Opal, Alberta. She was the youngest of eight children, three brothers and four sisters. At an early age of 3, there was a tragedy which her father and brother were killed and her mother left with brain damage. She was raised in orphanages and then a convent until she went to live with her oldest sister (Mary), where she became a second Mom, helping to raise fifteen of Mary's children. As she grew older, she went her own way. At the age of 22, she met her loving husband (Gordon) and raised a family of their own. Mom always enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and the farmers markets, where she became well known for her homemade perogies, baked goods, and antipasto. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her two sons; Mike (Cynthia) of Red Deer and Greg (Denise ) of Red Deer, one daughter, Sharon (Allen) of Red Deer and one step-daughter, Debbie (Clarence) of British Columbia. She will also be lovingly missed and never forgotten by her eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her brother, Harry (Evelyn) Andruski. Betty was predeceased by her parents; Steve and Julia Andruski, brothers; Peter and Paul, sisters; Ann, Mary, Vicky, and Katherine and her husband, Gordon.
A Memorial Tea will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer, on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
