POIRÉ, Jean-Guy
February 4, 1933 – January 16, 2015

On January 16, 2015, at the age of 81 years, Guy (born in Ste Marie de Beauce, Quebec) passed away peacefully at Bethany Collegeside, Red Deer, in the presence of several of the wonderful care staff there. Guy is predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara (neé Brooks, April 14, 2013), his parents; Leopold (October 21,1989) and Alice (June 24, 1977), and brothers; Daniel (March 4, 1951) and Daniel (August 22, 1964). Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend is survived by his only son, Mark (Wendy) in Sidney, BC, and treasured grandsons; Sean Colin and James Edward. Guy will be dearly missed by his extended family including sisters; Gisele and Celine (Denis Simpson), and brothers; Gilles (Joyce) and Simon, as well as sister-in-law, Kay Brooks, and many nephews, nieces and friends.

Guy and Barbara were married on April 17, 1954 at the Catholic Chapel at CFB Penhold. They were married for almost 59 years. They were soulmates and very much in love. Quite often, they would go on spontaneous drives in the car, going wherever the roads would lead, to discover new places and experiences.

Guy served in the RCAF from 1951 to 1975 while being stationed in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Trenton and Victoria. He loved sports and participated in many, including; boxing, hockey, fastball, badminton and squash. He was a proud Montreal Canadians (Habs) fan and could be frequently seen in his sacred red Habs jacket with the logo. While in Victoria and after retiring from the RCAF, he worked at St. Michael’s University and Sears Canada. In 1982, Guy and Barbara moved back to Alberta, living in Red Deer, Edmonton and then Red Deer again. While in Edmonton, he worked 10 years at Alberta Public Safety Services.

His faith sustained him through the good and not so good times. Guy wished for a private service, which will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 202, 5913-50 Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4N 4C4. Thanks are also extended to the compassionate and loving staff at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer. Guy will be missed by all.
