William Hollingshead
June 24, 1953 - March 21, 2017
With great sadness, Bill Hollingshead’s children announce his sudden passing on March 21, 2017 in Indio, California at the age of 63.
Bill was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Alberta Faculty of Dentistry in 1977. Bill established his dental practice in Red Deer where he was married to the mother of his children, Sharon Hollingshead (Crowe), for thirteen years. He later moved to Sylvan Lake and was married to Sharon Watt for fourteen years. Bill was a highly respected dentist, and a board member of the Alberta Dental Association from 1988-1996, serving as president for the 1994-1995 term. His outstanding contributions to the dental profession were recognized by the ADA with the Award of Excellence in May 2016.
Bill will be forever remembered for his fun-loving attitude, wonderful sense of humor, and generous spirit. He made friends easily in every aspect of life, and loved his daily interactions with patients, staff and neighbors. Bill was a very proud father and grandfather. He enjoyed being physically active and spending time outdoors at his homes in Sylvan Lake and Indio. His retirement years were filled with life and happiness, sharing time with loved ones. He traveled abroad extensively, particularly cherishing his many recent trips to England.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his three children, Shauna (Lee) Burkholder, Brian (Lindsay) Hollingshead, and Ian Hollingshead, as well as five grandchildren William, Ella, James, Owen, and Sam. Also mourning his loss are his siblings Susan (David) Robson, Bob (Bitty) Hollingshead, Diane (Rob Wilson) Hollingshead, and Jane (Cam) Foster. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Betty Hollingshead, and his grandson Adam Burkholder.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Eventide Funeral Home, 4850 45 Street, Red Deer, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to STARS Air Ambulance at foundation.stars.ca/AB-tributegift
